Ernest Claes was a Flemish writer. He studied at the Aartsbisschoppelijk College, in Herentals. Claes was known for his good grades and persistence. In 1906 he decided to study Germanic Studies at the Catholic University of Leuven.



Literary Career


Later he became chief editor of a number of Flemish magazines. When he was called to duty he ended up wounded and was kept a prisoner of war (POW) for a year in Germany. When he was released he travelled through Switzerland to France where he helped the French Army.
